A long time spin enthusiast discusses her favorite brand of electric bicycles
When Annie Morris took her first spin class in college, she never could have imaged what a big part of her life this new fitness craze would become. "I was a freshman in college, and I was super worried about putting on the freshman fifteen. A bunch of girls in my dorm were all chatting about the gym and all the free classes that they offered there, and a couple of us decided to pick a class to check out that week. Well the only one that we could all make it to was the spin class that started at like six in the morning. I had never heard of spin and I honestly had no idea what it was at all. I just got up and went to the gym with my friends at six in the morning.
She admits that while that first class was very intense and way more than she had bargained for, she really liked the high impact work out it provided. "I like the gym, and I have always been very invested in my health. However, whenever I got the gym, I worry that I am not doing enough of something. Like for example, maybe I didn't do enough cardio on a particular day, or I worry that maybe I should be doing more weight training. When you go to spin, there is no doubt in your mind that your just did something super positive for your body. And trust me, once you start sweating, you will be sure that you did enough cardio to last you a week."
That first session was enough to keep Annie coming back to spin classes for the rest of her college years, and even beyond. In fact, it even worked its way into her work life. "Once I had graduated from college, I got hired by this amazing company that really does everything they can to take care of their employees, and one day, I was chatting with one of my supervisors who told me that they were thinking of starting up some free fitness classes for employees to take before and after work. She knew that I was a fan of spin from previous conversations, so she asked me if I would be interested in organizing and teaching a spin class. Of course I agreed, and before I knew it, I was working with a team to design the fitness center."
Thanks to her prior knowledge of spin and the electric bikes that are often used, she knew exactly what kind of bikes and electric bike accessories they would need to get a class up and running. "I went straight to Small Planet bikes for every single piece of equipment we would need. I had used their bikes for years at a whole bunch of different gyms, and I knew that there was no better company to go with in terms of quality gym equipment for a spin class. I really believe that its because of this high quality equipment that our spin classes have been completely full since the day we opened."
